Fauntleroy Park

Location was the draw for this classic 1960s rambler in the suburbs. The plan: to totally renovate and update on a budget of $50K. It is possible to make your budget work. This project is a testament to planning ahead, informed decision making and savvy shopping.

This little house was dark, dated and the lower level revolved around a 60s bar; however, our client saw potential in its basic bones. To make the most of this 1952 sf home, we needed to rework the floor plan and focus on a lighting plan to create bright, light and efficient living space. Improvements were needed on both levels. By moving the stairs forward by only a few feet, we were able to dramatically improve the layout of the home. Creating a corridor off which the other rooms flowed on the lower level and flipping the kitchen and dining room on the upper level simply transformed the entire living space.

Accommodating such a restrictive budget necessitates priorities when it comes to finish selection. Simple but quality finishes were specified in a neutral palette. Smooth sheetrock, painted MDF baseboard and trim, high-quality remnant carpets, natural stone countertops from a discount wholesaler and a fabulous local cabinet maker ready to cut a deal, all came together to give new life to this now bright, airy home.
